Melbourne Victory traveled to Western Australia on Tuesday to face 2nd placed NPL WA side Olympic Kingsway.
Melbourne Victory young gun Jordi Valadon opened the scoring just after the 20 minute mark but Olympic Kingsway were not staying down for long with Midfielder Mitchell Oxborrow fighting back and scoring just four minutes later to level the playing field once more at 1-1.
The game was played back on fourth end to end football for the remainder of the first half before Melbourne Victory new signing Keegan Jelacic scored on the brink of half time to send Melbourne Victory to the sheds with all the energy required.
Melbourne Victory were largely in control for the start of the second half before Joseph Hobson scored in the 70th minute to once again level it for Kingsway who just kept playing catchup with the much more experienced Victory side.
With momentum all for Victory Joshua Rawlins was shown a straight red card for a studs up tackle on the half way line reducing Victory to 10 men with 12 minutes left to play out with the scores tight at 2-2.
An all time worldie from Reno Piscopo from Melbourne Victory with a minute left in regulation time seemed to have all but secured the points for Victory if they held down the bus but in the final seconds a ball flying around the penalty box made it past Victory goal stopper Jack Duncan from the boot of Liam Boland as the scoreboard ticked over to 3-3.
Referee Sam Kelly blew the whistle for the end of the match and extra time began before in the 101′ minute a tackle from Keegan Jelacic took down Laat Mathiang in the corner of the penalty area, Liam Boland converted the penalty and Kingsway took the advantage to 4-3 and held on for the rest of the match. Ultimately eliminating Melbourne Victory from the Australia Cup.
